Devotional Guide for Saturday, May 14

Judges 2:6-23

It baffles me that within one generation, the Israelites go from following Joshua and serving the Lord, to saying that they “knew neither the Lord nor what He had done for Israel.” In one generation! What follows from there is a quick decline into following and worshipping other gods, being raided and plundered by surrounding enemies, and the hand of the Lord being against them in battles because they so greatly violated the covenant God had made with them.

If this isn’t a good enough argument for the importance of passing on faith to the next generation, I don’t know what is. We need to be telling the stories of what God has done in our lives. We need to introduce the next generation to who God is. We need to be living our lives in ways that show the world around us freedom of living in Christ.

Take some time today to reflect on the ways that God has moved in your life. Think about the stories that brought you to faith, but also think of the stories of what God is currently doing in your life. Is there someone that you could share one of these stories with today?
