Devotional Guide for Wednesday, November 9

Acts 23:12-22

Reflect

There is a Biblical proverb that reads, “Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails” (Prov. 19:21).  Our passage today is a powerful example of this truth. More than forty men signed on to a plan to kill Paul. They had the religious establishment on their side. What could possibly stand in the way of this airtight human plan succeeding? Quite simply, it wasn’t God’s plan and all He needed to thwart their plot was a young man who “just happened to be” Paul’s nephew and who “just happened to be” in the right place at the right time to hear of the scheme.

God’s purposes will prevail. This truth should encourage us when we feel overwhelmed, even as it should challenge us when we work so hard to somehow seize control over the circumstances of our lives without surrendering to God’s ultimate purposes and control.

Apply

Is there a situation in your life currently where you need to surrender ultimate control to God and His purposes?
