1 Samuel 24
This morning, Pastor Lyle will continue a summer sermon series looking at the life of David. We’ve subtitled the series, “An Authentic Walk with God,” noting how the Bible provides a very realistic picture of David’s life, including the good, the bad and the ugly chapters. Today’s chapter describes an event in the life of David that is far from his finest hour. When treated rudely by Nabal, his immediate response excludes any reference to God as he plans self-centred revenge. The story doesn’t end there, however, as Abigail graciously confronts David and restores a godly perspective to the situation. It is at this point we see a crucial characteristic emerge that speaks to all of us in those times that are far from our finest hour. Rather than reject godly correction, David shows true humble teachability. Future disaster is averted as David lays down vengeance and chooses to surrender to God.
