Devotional Guide for Saturday, February 23

John 16:17-33

Reflect
It’s fascinating to me how our passage today was such an encouragement to the disciples back when Jesus first spoke these words, and also for us as we’re living today. Jesus said, “In this world you will have trouble”. The disciples could see that challenging times were ahead of them, that there was growing opposition and unrest. It’s easy to see how in our culture, Christianity is being pushed more and more to the outskirts of society. But that’s not the end of Jesus’ statement here. He goes on to say, “but take heart! I have overcome the world.” He says the trouble that you are facing isn’t the end of the story! Hard times will come, but that’s not the end! There will be a day when all of this is gone and we will be face to face with our Father who loves us because we know in the end, He wins. He has overcome the world. That is the hope that we have, and that is the hope that we can carry with us into this day.
