Psalm 42

Reflect
What I appreciate the most about the Psalms is that they give us a picture of what it looks like to live out our faith in the midst of whatever circumstances we face. There’s nothing about the Psalms that gives us the idea that living the Christian life will be easy and carefree, without any challenges or hard times. The Psalmist writes in this passage about what it looks like to worship in the middle of feeling overwhelmed and alone. It looks like he’s about to throw in the towel; everyone around is taunting him but the Psalmist remains steadfast. He knows that his faith doesn’t depend on circumstances, but  trusts that God will save him. So, his refrain is to continue to put his trust in God, and to continue to praise Him.

What are you facing today? Are you feeling alone and forgotten? Are you feeling overwhelmed with what’s going on around you? Or are you feeling supported and encouraged? Whatever you’re facing today, the invitation before you is to continue to trust, and to continue to worship.
