Devotional Guide for Thursday, September 12

Philippians 1:12-18

Reflect
Paul begins this section with a letter to those who are concerned for him.  They’ve heard he was in prison and wanted to know how he was doing.  What they might have been expecting is a report on the conditions of the prison cell, but what they got was a report that the Gospel was still being preached.  Paul’s view of his life was focused on advancing the Gospel, and if that meant spending time in prison, then so be it. Paul trusted God to work in all situations and believed God would overcome any human obstacle. Paul’s actions in the face of adversity spoke volumes to those around him. They saw his authentic faith in action. Other believers were motivated to be bold in sharing the Gospel and others saw what authentic faith looked like.

Reflect on your own life of faith. Where has it been an encouragement to others?

What do you think of when you hear the word ‘missions’? What about ‘missional’? Is it possible that you are thinking of something that occurs ‘out there’? This week we are highlighting ourselves as the ‘Missionary of the Week’. Every week here at McKernan, we have row after row of amazingly skilled and gifted people that gather together to worship God. Deep down you desire to shun the comfortable and to embrace the challenge that will cause you to truly rely upon God to attain something that is otherwise not possible; something that is of greater significance than personal achievement. Right here at McKernan, by the gift and grace of God, we have people who have what it takes to tackle the complex problems of this city and beyond.
Take the time that has been entrusted to you today to engage with the ministry opportunities highlighted at the Ministry Fair. Come and see what the Lord is doing and is inviting you to join with, because you are our ‘Missionary of the Week’!
