Preparation for Sunday, October 22

Galatians 4:1-20

A powerful theme in the book of Galatians is freedom for the believer in Christ. In the previous chapters, we’ve been exploring the idea that faith in Christ is all that is required of God for salvation and relationship with Him. There is no Jesus plus anything else to be saved and be a follower of God. In this section of Scripture, we begin to turn the corner towards Paul’s message to the Galatian church on what freedom in Christ looks like.

Freedom can carry the meaning “not imprisoned”. It means there are no slave drivers, no punitive masters, no barriers, or constraints placed on us. Because of Jesus we can live unshackled. The key through Christ has opened any of the locks that existed to hold us hostage personally and spiritually.

  • Can you think of ways you were “shackled” by anything before you knew Christ?
  • What ways do you see people in your life “imprisoned” who don’t know Christ?
  • What has His freedom looked like in your life?
