Devotional Guide for Monday, October 30

Philippians 1:1-6

Reflect

Our family likes doing puzzles. In fact, it is at this time of year when going outside requires more layers, that we find a puzzle more attractive. There are times when we get a puzzle going that one or two or sometimes all of us will wander around the table and start working on finding where the pieces all belong. Sometimes it is very easy, like the edge pieces, which usually get finished first. Other times it feels like we just can’t seem to find the right piece.

If you have ever worked on a puzzle, you know how satisfying it is to find the right spot for a particular piece, even more so the sense of satisfaction that comes putting the final piece in place.

Two Sundays ago, we were reminded in the sermon about the inscription on Ruth Bell Graham’s headstone which reads “End of Construction – Thank you for your patience”. This saying reflects the truth that God is going to bring His work in us to its finished status when we come face to face with our Lord. Until that beautiful day, we are a work in progress.

God will never abandon us or give up because the work is too hard. He knows where all the pieces fit, and in His timing He will complete the beautiful masterpiece that He is making us into.
