Devotional Guide for Thursday, November 23

Colossians 2:6-12

Reflect

Sometimes Paul is hard to understand, and at other times he gives us clear pictures of what he is trying to communicate to us. Today’s passage is one of those times where he gives us good images of what he means by living in Christ.

The four characteristics Paul gives us are: rooted, built up, strengthened and overflowing. We are to remember we are rooted, meaning we are to continue to grow in this action. A tree that has a good root base continues to grow those roots and support the ongoing health of the tree.

The next two, built up and strengthened, speak to our not being fully finished, but still under construction as believers. We still have things to learn and to discover, but we need to encourage one another along this journey.

The final characteristic is an active response to the reality of what God is doing in our lives. We should be overflowing with thanksgiving for all that God is doing in and through us.

Take some time today to reflect on how your life reflects these four characteristics.
