Preparation for Sunday, December 31

Philippians 3:13-14

We gather today on the brink of a new year. On the one hand, tomorrow is just another day, another turn of the calendar page and many things will be the same. On the other hand, the turn into a new year offers us an opportunity to reflect back on what was this last year, and look forward to all of the potential that a new year could hold. Many will be making resolutions about getting healthier, spending less time on social media, or wanting to focus more on one thing or another. Today we want to take this opportunity to ask God what He might have to say about what He’s inviting us into as we enter this new year.

In Philippians 3, Paul invites us to consider that a part of our journey towards Christ involves both letting go of the things that hinder us, and pressing forward towards Christ. As we enter into this new year, three of the pastoral staff will be sharing their reflections on what God is inviting them to both let go of, and to pick up. We invite you to consider that invitation for yourself as well.

Happy New Year!

Reflection Questions:
- What is something you want to let go of?
- What is something you want to pick up?
