Devotional Guide for Tuesday, January 23

Matthew 7:1-6

Reflect

Today we launch the final chapter in the greatest teaching ever given to humanity. This is Jesus at His finest. By this point in Jesus’s sermon, you have likely been encouraged, challenged, convicted and by God’s grace, transforming into the likeness of Jesus.

I admit, our dog, Maggie has become a picky eater. We have resorted to sprinkling some extras on her food in order to get her to eat. However, as dear and precious as my Bible is, even sprinkling it with bacon bits will not make it appealing to her.

As a child we annually went to my uncle’s farm and slaughtered a pig. My detestable job included chasing the pigs out from their very short, and disgusting pig pen. Even if I tried to lure them out with my mom’s cherished pearls, it wouldn’t have worked. Though, they seemed to take pleasure in trying to take a bite out of my leg.

The point being, many of us have had a bite taken out of us because we tried to spiritually feed people the most precious gospel, which is precious to us, but currently they are hungering for what may not be appealing to us.

Jesus always gives people what He knows they can digest. He doesn’t leave them there, but He does always meet them there. Jesus’ love for people goes well beyond formulas and “managing” them.

Who is Jesus calling you to meet where they are at? What is Jesus calling you to sacrifice in order to be with that person, for the glory of Jesus?
