Preparation for Sunday, February 25

Luke 15:11-32

This morning Pastor Nathanael continues a series of sermons around the theme, “Dwelling in Christ,” in which we are focusing on a number of the questions Jesus asked His followers. We’ll be looking at the Prodigal Son in Luke 15:11-32 as an extension of last week’s sermon on the Lost Sheep found in Luke 15:1-7.

Our perception of faith shapes how we live; our view of God influences our actions and choices. This morning we’ll delve into viewing God as our Father. The father's compassionate embrace, contrary to the cultural expectations of the day, unveils the depth of God's love.

As we look at the younger son, we’ll notice that his reckless living leads to destitution and despair, symbolizing the consequences of distancing oneself from God. The son's realization prompts repentance, illustrating the transformative power of acknowledging one's need for the Father.

When the narrative shifts to the older son, it highlights the danger of self-righteousness. God's consistent love challenges us to avoid comparison, welcome repentant hearts, and understand that proximity does not guarantee intimacy with God.
