Matthew 14:22-36

Reflect

In 1979 Salmond and Mulder, Canadian Christian musicians produced an album called “Stumbling Heavenward”. The cover of the album has a well-used (beat up) running shoe on it. The theme song consisting of 4 lines, is recorded at the end of the album. This tiny tune has surfaced in my head at the oddest times. The lyrics are:

“And we’re all stumbling heavenward; and we’re flying like a crippled bird; yet we know as we go there’s a shining light; guiding as we seek our way back home”.

Peter has bouts of faith and bouts of fear, but as he grows in his trust in the Lord, faith begins to be more consistent – with bouts of fear still coming, but less often. This is certainly my story!
A more recent song, “Oceans” describes this walk upon the water:

“Your grace abounds in deepest waters; Your sovereign hand will be my guide; Where feet may fail and fear surrounds me; You’ve never failed and You won’t start now; so I will call upon Your name; and keep my eyes above the waves; when oceans rise my soul will rest in Your embrace; for I am Yours and You are mine.”

The disciples worshiped Jesus saying, “Truly you are the Son of God”. Yes, You truly are!!
