Devotional Guide for Thursday, March 28

Matthew 26:17-27:10

Reflect

We have reached Thursday of Holy Week. The day begins with the disciples asking Jesus where he would like to eat the Passover meal, but end with Jesus being arrested. Have you ever had one of those days? A day that started with a celebration but ended in sorrow?

Life for us a followers of Jesus changed because of an event that takes place today. Matthew 26:39 we read this amazing prayer of Jesus – “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me, yet not what I want but what you want.” Jesus asks his father to release him from the events that are about to happen, but then powerfully says, yet not what I want, but what you want. Jesus didn’t just say the words, he lived them out. This act of obedience, trust and surrender to the will of the Father for his life is powerful.

Have you surrendered your life fully to God? Have you prayed the second half of Jesus’ prayer in the garden? The part that says, “yet not what I want, but what you want”?

Lord I pray you would give us the courage to surrender completely to the will you have for our lives.
