Devotional Guide for Saturday, March 30

Matthew 27:57-66

Reflect

It’s interesting to me to see how much the chief priests and Pharisees feared Jesus even after he had died. They must have sensed that something was different about Him, and that even though they saw Him die, they were worried about the influence that He could still have. They went to such great lengths to protect and guard the burial site so that nothing would happen to it.

I often wonder what Saturday would have felt like, for everyone; The disciples, other followers of Jesus, for Pilate and the Pharisees. You get this sense that everyone is holding their breath, wondering if it’s all really over. Could this possibly be the end?

It can be easy for us to quickly move to celebrating on Easter Sunday, but I’d encourage all of us to spend some time today reflecting on the gravity of the situation. Jesus really died, for us. He went through all of that, for you and for me. All I can do is worship, all I can do is praise Him. What a gift.
