Devotional Guide for Friday, April 19

2 Thessalonians 3:1-5

Reflect

As kids continue to grow, they’re discovering more and more about what they like and dislike. In one moment, they can go from liking tomatoes to absolutely hating them. It’s no different from anyone else. We can change preferences on a dime, follow the latest trend, make impulsive decisions, and be swayed by those who have stronger convictions than our own. People are fickle.

But Paul says here that the Lord is faithful (v3). He contrasts the faithlessness of men with the faithfulness of God. No matter what is thrown at the Lord or towards His children, God will always triumph because He is unrelenting and faithful.

And it’s because of this truth that the believer can walk with confidence (v4) against the enemy. Despite what can be hurled by others or by Satan, God is committed to His children, and evil shall not prevail. One commentator writes, “When Christians experience harm or even death because of righteousness, it is not evil that triumphs, but the plan of God that succeeds.”
Paul’s confidence is well-rested in God.
