Devotional Guide for Friday, April 26

1 Timothy 3:1-7

Reflect

What does leadership look like to you? For some, it may look like courage, communication, decision-making abilities, and vision.

For those entering the particular office of overseer/bishop/pastor in the church, Paul lays out a blueprint for those who are called into this position of leadership. Qualities such as integrity, humility, self-control and hospitality are required for anyone who aspires to be in a position of leadership in the church. This is applicable not only in the church but regarding one’s home life as well.

As we read the calling of an overseer, we see that there is a deep commitment to serve others and to take the posture of humility. Although this may apply to a specific office in the church, we are generally called to lead in some capacity. That may be our workplaces, relationships, family, and much more. By living and cultivating these virtues, we can make an impact in our circles and communities.

Apply

1. How do the qualifications found in Timothy challenge your understanding of leadership?
2. In what ways are you actively cultivating these characteristics laid out by Paul?
