1 Timothy 6:12-21

Reflect

“Fight the good fight of faith.”

These are the words Paul writes to Timothy. Words that evoke military images--a theme that is woven throughout Paul’s letters.

In 2 Timothy 4:7 Paul writes, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” In Ephesians 6:12 he tells us that our battle is not with flesh and blood “but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against the spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.” He continues with instructions to put on the full armour of God.

To finish the race will take intentional pursuit of Jesus. It’s not a 100-meter sprint but a marathon of faith as we continue to follow Jesus. Hebrews 12:1-2 exhorts us to run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus.

You may have just started the race, or you may have been running it for years. Regardless of where you are, what does it look like right now to fix your eyes on Jesus?

What does it mean for you to fight the good fight of faith?
