Devotional Guide for Monday, May 6

2 Timothy 1:1-7

Reflect

The phrase “God doesn’t call the equipped, He equips the called” has been coined from Hebrews 13:20-21. This requires faith to persevere and be bold, knowing that the Holy Spirit will go with us and equip us.

Timothy was experiencing great opposition to his message and as a young leader. He had received special gifts of the Spirit to enable him to serve the church. Paul encourages Timothy “to fan into flame the gift of God”--to persevere. Timothy needed the courage and self-discipline to hang on to the truth and to use the gifts he had already received. The Holy Spirit would go with him and give him the power.

It is only as we draw close to God in humility and surrender and invite the Holy Spirit afresh into our lives, that He rekindles our heart and fans into flame His gifts within us.

Let’s ask the Lord if there is a need for a rekindling of His gifts within us today. May we have faith to persevere and be bold. May we hunger to see more of God’s power at work in this world and that many more people would believe in our miracle-working God – for His glory!

As Jason and Erin Bergman (Missionaries of the week) said, “Be encouraged that God continues to use ordinary, broken people to write His story.”
