Devotional Guide for Saturday, December 10

Luke 1:26-38

Reflect

This is another one of those stories that we read about in the Bible and often just skim over without recognizing how amazing it actually is. Mary, a virgin pledged to be married, has an angel come to her and tell her that she will give birth to the Son of God. And if that weren’t enough, her relative Elizabeth who was said to be barren is also pregnant. It almost sounds like the angel anticipates Mary’s shock and confusion, and before she can even respond, the angel says, “For nothing is impossible with God.” God brought life to the most impossible circumstances. Symbolically, maybe there are areas in your life that feel dead and hopeless. Maybe you’re feeling dissatisfied with how work is going. Maybe there’s tension or hurt in a significant relationship. Maybe there’s the same struggle with sin that you’ve wrestled with for as long as you can remember. Maybe it feels impossible right now, but perhaps God desires to bring life back to these areas. I don’t know what God wants to do in your life today, but my hope is that you too will hear the words of the angel who visited Mary that night long ago. “For nothing is impossible with God.”
