Devotional Guide for Wednesday, May 17

1 Corinthians 14:26-40

Reflect

When have you gone to a worship service and felt that the presence of God was truly manifesting Himself? Was there a sense of peace, or was it something that was out of your comfort zone, but compelling? In the first century, like today, there are a wide variety of understandings of what listening and responding to the work of the Spirit is like. Typically, every church will land somewhere along the spectrum of worship styles. Further down either end of the spectrum are churches that are more charismatic and churches that are more conservative. The greater the diversity of those who truly worship God, the more it says about the One who is worshipped. We are not, and we ought not, all aspire to be of one ‘flavour’, yet there is tremendous opportunity to be discerning and submissive to how God chooses to glorify Himself. How are you engaging in increasingly Spirit-filled worship for God’s glory? What practice in the worship in our church draws you closer to God? How is your worship influencing others to also draw near to the peace and awesomeness of God?
