Proverbs 22:17-29

Reflect

We have been cruising through the Proverbs for some time now. What one area in your way of thinking and being has changed? How are you intentionally applying the wisdom given here to become your way of life?  Certainly, some of the wisdom that we read in Proverbs can be found in other historical and current documents. Many other cultures and religions would affirm the wisdom that flows in Proverbs. One of the stand alone points that must be caught is the motivation for these wisdom sayings. At one level, we are motivated because we want to be healthier people. Another motivation is that we desire to be people who influence others so that they can be better people. However, lest we aim our target too low, today we are reminded that our motivation is found in verse 19, ‘that your trust may be in the LORD’. How do things change when a person really trusts the LORD? Try to be objective. What do your neighbours or co-workers observe you really trusting in? If the good life is found in trusting in the LORD, how are you modelling the good life?
