Colossians 1:13-14

Reflect

These two short verses that we read today are absolutely filled with amazing truth. As part of an encouragement to the church in Colossae, Paul writes that the believers are to strengthen themselves in God the Father by giving thanks to Him. But what are they supposed to be thankful for? Verses 13-14 indicate in a beautiful way what God has done for us. He has rescued us from the power of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of Jesus. In addition to this, He has redeemed us (paid the penalty for) from our sins and offered us forgiveness. What I love about this promise is that it’s in the present tense. We can live out of this kingdom reality now. We do not need to live as captives to darkness. Rather, we can live as members of His Kingdom! This amazing truth is more than enough reason to be thankful and to ‘strengthen ourselves in the Lord’.
