Colossians 1:21-23

Reflect

We were on our way to take a “cantata” to a neighbouring church.  It was dark and we were on a chartered bus.  I was visiting with Sandro, who was sharing a seat with me.  As the bus was winding around a narrow road, we saw an open courtyard where there was a little hut lit up with red lights.  Sandro asked me if I knew what took place there.  I said, “no”. He proceeded to tell me of his life before Christ, where he was steeped in devil worship and bondage. He told me that he was locked up in a hut like that for 40 days, being daily covered with the blood of sacrificed chickens. He continued to tell me how thankful he was to have heard the Gospel, to have received the freedom and joy that reconciliation with God brings. He said the countless animal sacrifices made on his behalf were useless, and Christ’s sacrifice for him was all-sufficient. That is the Gospel (good news) that Paul brings forth in this passage. May our hearts be filled with gratefulness for Christ’s sacrifice for us, and may we have a desire to live with a greater love, hope and longing for our Lord.
