Devotional Guide for Saturday, December 16

Luke 1:1-25

Reflect

There are many things we can learn as we take a deeper look into Matthew’s genealogy of Jesus. One of the interesting things is to look at the breadth of people included in this list. In it are both men and women, and both Jew and Gentile. This shows us the broad scope of those who make up not only the genealogy of Jesus, but also the people of God. Jesus came for everyone.

We also see in this list that it isn’t just a list of All-stars, a list of people who got it perfect. There are a number on this list who have had a very difficult and messy past. Their inclusion in this list shows us that God doesn’t write off any of our stories. We can look back on our difficult and messy chapters and see Jesus was actively involved not just in the nice, easy parts, but every part of our lives.

Jesus came for everyone, and that includes you. Your past mistakes or circumstances don’t disqualify you from being a part of God’s people.
