Devotional Guide for Thursday, January 11

Luke 5:12-16

Reflect

“Lord if you are willing, you can make me clean.” (v.12) When I read this plea from this man, I hear his cry for help, but I also hear in his plea an acknowledgement that Jesus is not a vending machine.  He recognizes Jesus’ ability to heal and his own desire to be healed, but I also read in this passage a willing heart to accept whatever the answer might be from Jesus without casting doubt on who Jesus is and what He can do.

Apply

As you approach God with your requests, how is your heart?  Is it doubting God’s abilities?  Are you able to trust in God no matter the answer?

Pray

  • Pray for all our small group leaders.
  • Pray for our Congregational Life Pastor, Christine Okken.
  • Pray for Graham Crawford - Serving in Mission (SIM). Graham Crawford and his wife Kathleen are missionaries with SIM Canada. Their place of ministry is in Parakou, Benin in West Africa.  Kathleen is primarily working as a nurse in a community clinic.  Graham is working as a Project Coordinator, which basically means assessing the needs of each project SIM operates in the country, and trying to acquire what they need. They also have secondary roles as the harvest is plenty but the workers are few.  Kathleen is managing the guesthouse while Graham is using his knowledge of computers to help upgrade the IT infrastructure.  Please pray for them as they learn the French language. Pray for them as a newly married couple that they will continue to bond and serve each other.  And finally, continue to pray that they would be attentive to the Lord and to the things He wants to teach them.
