Devotional Guide for Thursday, February 15

Luke 11:14-28

Reflect

There is a saying, “You need to stop and give your head a shake” that I’ve heard people quote when they’ve been discussing something that just doesn’t make sense.  Why would someone do such a thing or say such a thing? They need to stop and give their head a shake.  In today’s passage, those who were accusing Jesus of being Beelzebub needed to stop and give their head a shake.  We can often get caught up in the momentum of life and events, and we don’t take time to pause and examine what is actually taking place.  The crowd asked for a sign and they had just seen one, yet that wasn’t enough.  I hope that as we walk out this life with Jesus daily, we pause regularly to examine all that Jesus has been doing in and through us and others; that we don’t jump to rash decisions about faith or who God is, but that we will be blessed as ones who hear the word of God and obey it.

Pray

  • Pray for all our small group leaders.
  • Pray for Leigh and Barbara Labrecque, who have been serving with Wycliffe Bible Translators since 1998. Currently they are working from their BC missionary training school, the Canada Institute of Linguistics in BC. Leigh teaches several classes, training people how to develop literacy programs and materials. He also works as the director of communications and promotion for the institute. Barbara serves in student support and hospitality. We love being part of God’s plan to equip the next generation of Bible translators, cross-cultural literacy workers, Scripture use workers, and those assuming other cross-cultural mission oriented roles. We are thankful for the role that McKernan Baptist Church has in helping to equip these young people as they seek to serve God on the mission field.
