Luke 18:15-17

Reflect

As we read these passages, we do well to read them within the adjacent passages, the entire Gospel, and all of Scripture. Jesus, through Luke, always invites us to embrace what the good life consists of. Yesterday’s passage warns of coming to the Kingdom of God with our idol of pompous good morality (heart filled with self). Tomorrow’s passage warns about our idol of riches (heart filled with stuff). Self and stuff; woe is truly the reward. In today’s passage we see that the children are welcomed because their heart is filled with a desire to just be with Jesus, regardless of their circumstances. They are not worrying about all the matters that Jesus needs to deal with. They are fully in the moment with Him. The only One worrying less than the children is Jesus! He always fulfils what He sets out to accomplish. How is your pursuit of self and stuff hindering your desire to experience Jesus? How would you know if your good intentions are hindering someone else from receiving the Kingdom of God like a child? Release your agenda and hear Jesus say to you, “Come to Me”.
