Luke 18:31-34

Reflect

Today’s passage is one that invites us into a place of deep worship. Jesus is with His disciples, those closest to Him, and He is explaining that He will soon be tortured, crucified, and then raised from the dead. The disciples had been with Jesus all along, had seen His miracles, heard His teaching, watched Him in prayer and communion with the Father. But they did not understand His purpose. 2000 years later, we have a very different understanding of why Jesus came, but I think many of us, like the disciples, fail to grasp the gravity of Jesus’ ministry on earth. He was fully aware of the fact that He came in order to give up His life; He came to die. He was so keenly aware of His purpose but it did not sway Him. In fact, it motivated Him. I’m intentionally using this tone today because I feel that this passage is inviting us to a place of deeper worship, of awe, of humility before our God, who knew all that would happen to Him. Oh that we would not be like the disciples, unable to grasp the gravity of His love.
