Devotional Guide for Tuesday, April 24

Luke 19:11-27

Reflect

As Jesus nears Jerusalem, the crowd expects Him to set up an earthly kingdom. Jesus tells this parable to explain that first He will go away, during which time His followers are to be productive and faithful. Upon His return, He will initiate a kingdom where power and justice prevail. This parable shows Jesus’ followers what they should dedicate themselves to do during His absence, and this applies to us as well. Given talents to build and expand the spiritual kingdom on Earth, Jesus’ followers are to do His work, causing great growth and multiplication. For this we will give an account at His return.

Apply

The “wicked servant” is reprimanded because he didn’t share his master’s interest in the kingdom. He didn’t trust his master’s intentions; he only thought of himself and made no effort to use the money (his gifts). Have we used our gifts to benefit the kingdom? Do we want to see it grow? Do we trust the Master to be fair and just? Are we concerned for others, and are we faithfully using what we have been given?

Give of your best to the Master;

Give Him first place in your heart;

Give Him first place in your service;

Consecrate every part.
