Devotional Guide for Saturday, August 11

2 Samuel 16:15-17:29

Reflect

In the midst of dangerous circumstances and a clearly divided kingdom, we see in this chapter a number of characters who risk their lives to show their loyalty to David. Even as a close advisor to Absalom, Hushai uses his position to save David’s life, putting himself in great danger if he were to be caught.

It makes me think how safe and easy we have it as Christians in our country and city today. I’ve obviously never had an experience where showing my loyalty to God would put me in great danger. But when have I had to make sacrifices to show my loyalty? Sure, they might not be life or death decisions, but I’ve had to pass up certain opportunities, or make other sacrifices because I believed what God was calling me to.

What sacrifices have you made to follow the calling that God has for you? What might that even look like today?
