Preparation for Sunday, August 12

Preparation for Sunday

Read Genesis 18:1-15

Today Pastor Lyle will continue a series of summer messages entitled, “Abraham: On a Journey with God.”  The passage we’ll explore describes a scene where three visitors come to Abraham with the news that Sarah would bear a child within the year.  As a ninety-year old woman, Sarah’s response was laughter at the seemingly utter impossibility of it all.  Yet, these visitors were indeed bringing a promise from God that was fulfilled despite the odds.

Apply

  • Try to place yourself in Sarah’s position as this story unfolds. How do you think she felt as the events of verses 9-15 unfolded?  How would she have then felt when she found out she was pregnant? (Gen. 21:1,2)
  • Are there any situations in your life where you are currently struggling to trust God? How does this story speak to you in the midst of this struggle?
  • After listening to this morning’s message, how do you believe God is asking you to respond?
  • Ask God to work in the hearts of all who will be attending our services today.

Pray

  • Pray for all who will be involved in our services today.
  • Pray that God would effectively be at work in our church and in all His churches throughout our city today.
  • Pray for our Children’s Ministry Director, Jerilyn Bayer.
