Devotional Guide for Thursday, October 11

Acts 14:1-7

Reflect
As we continue to read about Paul and Barnabas’ travels, we see they once again speak boldly and effectively, resulting in many Jews and Gentiles believing in the Gospel.  What I appreciate about today’s passage is that the story doesn’t end here.  We read about the opposition Paul and Barnabas face, which is something we can all relate to in our own stories of trying to share the Gospel.  What I also appreciate is how Paul and Barnabas didn’t quit at the first sign of pushback.  “So Paul and Barnabas spent considerable time there, speaking boldly for the Lord...” (v.3). They continued to speak truth and allowed God to work in the lives of the people they were working with.  Some believed, some were opposed, but it wasn’t until their very lives were threatened did they give up and move on.  What a great example of perseverance in the face of opposition.

Apply

May we, like Paul and Barnabas, speak boldly and effectively to the world around us.

Crystal Dueck - Greater Europe Mission (GEM)
I have been working with Greater Europe Mission (GEM) for over 8 years. For the past 3 years and 7 months I have been serving in Southwest Germany with Euroteam. Euroteam plans and organizes short-term missions teams to many places across Europe. My main role with them has been administrative work, helping process the team members from North America and Europe. I have also been able to help lead some of the teams that have come. I have also served in my local German church, mentoring 4 youth girls, leading youth group, and working on worship teams. My biggest prayer request right now is that I have felt God leading in a new direction and have taken the first step in this, but now wait on other GEM leadership to make the final decision. Will you pray with me as we all seek God?
