Devotional Guide for Saturday, November 10

Acts 27:1-12

Reflect
Are we more likely to trust godly wisdom and advice, or expert opinion when it comes to how we are supposed to live our lives? In this passage, Paul and others are being transported to Rome, and during the journey they repeatedly encounter poor conditions that make their travel slow and arduous. In verse 10, Paul tells the crew that he can see the trip is going to be disastrous for the ship and cargo, but the centurion looks to the wisdom of the pilot and owner of the ship. We’ll read next week about how well that decision went, but you can imagine what happened next.

Apply
Who are the people in your life that you look to for godly wisdom and counsel? Are there people who are allowed to speak truth into your life like that? How likely are you to heed their advice even if (or maybe, especially if) it goes against what expert knowledge might say? How willing are we to risk for God based on the godly wisdom of people around us?
