Have you ever dined at a 4 star restaurant? We’ve had a couple of experiences with it during our marriage, and often we didn’t recognize anything on the menu or know how to eat what was in front of us. It was in a different class completely. The type of invitation God is giving to us in this passage is to a type of banquet that is “fully other”. Regular drink and food temporarily satisfy, cost money and are gone. His offering to us is free but is the richest of fare, satisfying but without labour. It’s His covenant He fulfils, whether we live up to our part of it or not. Come! Enter in to something the world cannot offer you; it’s an invitation far better than a 4 star restaurant.
