Devotional Guide for Thursday, November 30

Colossians 4:2-6

Reflect

Today we continue with some of Paul’s final instructions for the Colossians. His first is to be mindful of the opportunities that come our way. Life is short and we don’t always get another chance to share the Gospel with someone. We need to pay attention and be bold in sharing. But we shouldn’t share without taking into consideration our audience. That’s another part of his final instructions.

We need to have our conversations full of Christian grace and it should be inviting. Paul used the word “salt” to describe our conversation. In Paul’s day salt could preserve food, sterilize the food or season it. Paul wants us to make sure our conversations are flavorful, seasoned, so that those we talk with will desire more conversation.

Finally, Paul warns us not to think one approach will work with everyone. We need to be mindful of who we are talking with so that when we give an answer it is making sense to them.

Good advice for the Colossians and for us today. Let’s be attentive to the opportunities God brings our way today and put into practice Paul’s advice.

Pray for Aaron Cranton – Old Strathcona Abounding in Love Society

The Father has called us to journey, in the Spirit of Christ, alongside our homeless and marginalized neighbours in Old Strathcona, providing emotional, spiritual, and relational support directly and through partnerships with community organizations. As honest, mutually vulnerable friendships deepen, many are moved to change their circumstance and transition from hopelessness to hope. God is using His street outreach mission to ensure that everybody knows at a heart level His desire to be in a personal relationship with ALL of His children. Everyone can experience the forgiveness and healing that Christ gives.
