1 Timothy 5:17-25

Reflect

Paul continues his instructions to Timothy in our passage. Timothy, who is a younger leader, is reminded of the importance of not shying away from doing what is right and commanded.

Can you picture being a younger person, just starting in your role, and you find out a senior person who is well respected, whether that is an employee, volunteer at church, or someone in your organization, is doing something improper? Can you imagine the stress that would put on you when you consider what will happen when you report the impropriety?

What would you do? What have you done in the past when presented with a similar situation?

Timothy is expected to act appropriately in a disciplined way, but it is also believed that the idea in verse 22 is to not hesitate in restoring someone who has repented from their sin(s).

As followers of Jesus, it is a hard but loving act to confront those who are living outside of God’s way in the world, but it is equally hard and loving to extend forgiveness and restoration.
