Times Available: Sunday Mornings 9:30 am service.
Route 56 is a ministry that we offer to our grade 5 and 6 students here at McKernan. In order to prepare them for the upcoming challenges of Junior High, and to reflect their maturing minds and bodies Sunday School must be done differently. To accommodate this change and to create the dynamic of a small group within the grade 5 and 6 class the following exciting elements are happening.
•Crash Night
Crash Night is a once a month, bring your friends, activity centered event hosted by parents. These events start to prepare the students for youth group type activities and allows them to get beyond the church as the only place we talk about faith and our relationship with God. The type and intensity of the events is largely determined by the students in grade 5 and 6 that year.
•Church
So far Sunday School has been automatic for grade 5 and 6 students but the Sunday before our Crash Nights they get the full Church experience. This gives parents the opportunity to model to their children how to worship. They are able to sing, listen and participate within the service so they have this experience before the time they enter into Junior High.
•Beyond Crafts and Supervision
Students ages 10 to 13 are in a foundational stage of life. Special attention is taken that they are able to explore their faith personally and what it means to be in a faith community. Questions about faith impacting life, what does it mean to be baptized, and who are Jesus and the Holy Spirit, are all addressed as those natural questions are posed. These age appropriate discussions engage the students at the faith stage of each child. It is our prayer these aspects of their faith will become clearer as they enter Junior High and life in youth group that come with it.
