Devotional Guide for Thursday, March 19

Matthew 19:13-15

Reflect
A couple of ideas jump out at me from today’s passage.  The first idea is that Jesus didn’t see people as important or insignificant.  Children in Jesus’ day were low on society’s importance chart, but Jesus viewed them as just as important as adults. I like how one commentator states the second idea. Jesus points out that child-likeness is not only a prerequisite for entrance to the Kingdom, but is also a necessary lifetime characteristic for Jesus’ disciples. As weak, defenseless, vulnerable children, they must continue to maintain dependence on their heavenly Father for the purpose, power, and significance of their life of discipleship. Children usually don’t have a lifetime of hurt and disappointment to get in the way of believing in Jesus.

Apply
Take some time today to ask God to show you how childlike you are when it comes to trusting Him.
