PROGRAMS Programs

MBC offers many opportunities to find belonging, personal growth, and community. Some of those opportunities are offered as ministries (visit our ongoing ministries here), and other opportunities come in the form of time-based programs that strive to feed and encourage people where they’re at.

While the following programs fall under the umbrella of different ministries, they’re a great introduction to  becoming involved in the McKernan community and being intentional about your faith.

Alpha (Missions)

A semi-structured evangelistic program to explore the basics of the Christian faith in a non-judgmental setting through a series of topics and casual discussion. These classes are open to the public so check it out (and bring a friend).

We anticipate our next class will be scheduled for January 2025. Contact Pastor Dan for more info.

Bible Studies (Equipping)

We have a number of options for different Bible Studies throughout the week and at different times of the day. All are welcome. Check out our Bible Studies listing for current offerings.

Children

We provide Nursery and Sunday School during both services (9 and 11am), from September through to June. Visit our website to learn more about our children programs or email Pastor Jerilyn.

MBC is also home to McKernan Childcare Daycare Centre (MCDC), a childcare program based on Christian values for working parents. Visit MCDC to learn more about the program.

Computer Refurbishing Ministry (CRM) (Missions)

Helping those in need of refurbished computers. Learn more and download an application and email it to Pastor Dan.

Daybreak (Children's Ministry)

An informal drop-in time for parents to get together with other parents while their children enjoy playing with others their age. Drop-ins welcome (Sept – June). For more information, email Pastor Jerilyn.

Focus 3 (Equipping)

This is our spiritual formation ministry training. Our desire is to foster a lifelong learning culture which develops godly leaders for influence in the Church and in the world. The primary focus is a response to these three questions: 1) Who is God? 2) Who am I? and, 3) What does God desire to do through me? Followers of Christ that respond well to those questions stay focused for a lifetime of Christ glorifying service.

For more information and course material, visit the VantagePoint website, or contact Pastor Dan for more info.

Freedom Session (Care)

Freedom session offers practical strategies to deal with real issues such as pornography, broken relationships, sexual woundedness and abuse, depression, anger, fear and various forms of addiction. Beneath these “symptoms” is most likely a wounded and empty heart, looking for hope and meaning. For more information, visit our website or email Pastor Melissa.

Healing Prayer Ministry (Care)

Healing Prayer Ministry provides support and care to individuals who desire to move toward spiritual wholeness and maturity in Christ (Colossians 1:9-14 & 28). It’s not counselling, but intentional listening prayer in community where we bring our brokenness, illness, and beliefs before God, seeking His truth, healing and restoration.

Our ministry consists of volunteer lay-based followers of Jesus Christ who have obtained training through Desert StreamsEllel Canada, or similar organizations. To learn more about MBC’s Healing Prayer Ministry, visit our website or contact Pastor Melissa (780-436-0611 or email).

Hymn Sing (Young at Heart)

Different churches from Edmonton and surrounding area gather to sing hymns and enjoy kindred fellowship. We usually meet on the 4th Sunday of each month. For more information, email Pastor Mike.

MELL (Missions)

This is a 10-week beginner-level ESL program focusing on everyday living skills while providing an opportunity to develop English skills in a safe and caring environment. Watch the MELL web page for registration information and sign up early because the program fills up very quickly (* The class is limited to 50 students.)

We anticipate our next class will be scheduled for September 2024. Contact Pastor Dan for more info.

Refugee Assistance Ministry (RAM) (Missions)

With a heart for helping displaced people, RAM plays an active role in assisting immigrants on their entry to Canada as well as the practical preparation of integrating into their new home in Edmonton.

Visit the RAM web page to learn more and if you're interested in volunteering, fill out our online Connection Card indicating your interest in volunteering for RAM or email Pastor Dan for more information. Your financial gifts also go a long way in making this program a success. Use our online donation form to contribute to the program (and include a note that your gift is for RAM).

Sanctuary (Care)

An intentional time of extended prayer and worship during a weekday evening to spend personal time with Jesus. Watch the bulletin and online calendar for upcoming dates.

Groups

McKernan (Small) Groups are a great place to make meaningful relationships, have fun and grow in your faith. These groups are made up of people who meet during the week to experience care, support, friendship, spiritual growth, and servanthood. This takes place as we study the Bible, pray, share of ourselves and care for one another. Visit our website for more information or email Pastor Mike.

Stephen Ministry (Care)

Everyone goes through difficult times. Having someone to care, to listen and to share God’s love with you, can help get you through the confusion, stress or loneliness you may be experiencing. Stephen Ministry is grounded in Jesus’ command to love one another. Through one-to-one caring relationships, those who are hurting receive the love and care they need to support them. For more information, visit our website or email Pastor Mike.

Talk to Someone (Care)

If you're going through a hard time or simply want someone to pray with you, we would love to connect with you. Please reach out via our online form and one of our pastors will be in touch with you. All submissions are confidential.

White Cross (Missions)

White Cross provides medical supplies and relief goods to hospitals, health centres, and rest houses in West Africa,  with a primary focus on Cameroon and Nigeria.  MBC facilitates workshops on the last Monday of every month from September through May, where we prepare bandages and dressings for hospitals in Cameroon. Bring a bag lunch. Newcomers are always welcome! For more information, visit the White Cross website.
