Psalm 116

Reflect

The psalmist devotes his entire life (which must include times of grief and happiness) to the LORD (v.1) as a result of the LORD hearing His voice. I believe, ‘inclined his ear’, is a way of saying God empathized with the psalmist. Crucial to note is that God then moved in action (v6-9). Listening leads to empathizing which then leads to acting. The result is that the psalmist becomes a far healthier person, devoted to a life of worship towards God and giving evidence of being engaged with a vibrant community life (vv12-14). Friend, as one that is made in the image of God and has available the filling of God’s Spirit; you have been formed to experience the sweetness of worshipping God as long as you live. Jesus plainly indicates that worship must include acts of mercy and grace into the lives of others (Mt25:37-40). In a very real sense, you are God’s ambassador to those that are calling out to Him. I have every reason to believe that you are ‘inclining an ear’, or better yet, listening with empathy to the needs of those that are struggling. Prayerfully consider how God is calling you to action as we desire to create healthy communities. Please email me and let me know where God is leading you.
