Preparation for Sunday, September 20

Isaiah 1:10-20; 55:1-3

Today Pastor Lyle will continue our new ministry theme “Beyond” with a message on God’s challenge that we move “beyond religion” to an authentic relationship with Him that impacts both our inner lives and outer actions.  In the passage above, Isaiah is writing to God’s people, not outsiders.  These are people who would, by all appearances, be faithfully participating in the right religious services and practices, yet have hearts that were far from God.  Isaiah not only exposes the emptiness of this, but extends to his listeners God’s gracious invitation to true life!

Apply

  • How might we today participate in all the right religious activities, yet be totally missing God’s intended life for us?
  • After listening to this morning’s message, how do you believe God is asking you to respond?
  • Ask God to work in the hearts of all who will be attending our services online and in person today.

Pray

  • Pray that God would effectively be at work in our church and in all His churches throughout our city today.
  • Pray for our Children’s Ministry Pastor, Jerilyn Bayer, her Ministry Assistant Annette Faszer, and interns Nathanael Faszer, Sunita Faszer, Emma Chang, and Blythe Knapczyk.
