Isaiah 10:20-34

Reflect

When our children were learning to walk, we looked around our home and tried to anticipate all the sharp corners and places where toddlers might hurt themselves severely. We spent a lot of time with little hands grasping on to our fingers as we helped them along their journey towards walking.  We knew that we could not keep carrying them, otherwise they would never learn how to walk.  Part of the process of learning to walk meant that we had to let them fall down. While there were some tumbles that resulted in tears and frustration from each of our children who looked at us with the pained expression that seemed to ask, “Why weren’t you there to catch me?”, we knew that although we were there, there had to be some tumbles in order to learn. Isaiah’s message to God’s people is assuring them that during a painful time God is still there with them.

Apply

Our spiritual walk will involve some tumbles. God is not absent from us during these times. He promises us that He is always with us. There are times through the pain and frustration when we are learning how to stand firm. Jesus reminds us in John 16:33 that in this world we will have trouble, but to take heart; He has overcome the world.  Stand firm, He is there with you.
