Isaiah 40:9-17

Reflect

If you have driven the Crowsnest Highway lately, you will have passed through the little town of Sparwood B.C., which is the home of the Terex Titan.  Perhaps you have stopped and taken a look at this massive truck.  How big is it?  It is 22 ft 7 in (6.88 m) tall. Fully loaded, it weighs over 1 million pounds. The 16-cylinder diesel engine is 10,343-cu.in. and produces 3,300 horsepower. Each of the 10 tires are 12 ft. tall. And it could move 1 million plus pounds around at speeds up to 30 mph.  Those are some big numbers for a big machine.  Parking a regular truck beside it helps us grasp the perspective of its size.

Apply

Isaiah helps us gain a proper perspective of our God. He asks us to try to grasp the size and power of God. As far as power goes, He could scoop up the ocean in His two hands. As for size? The expanse of sky He can put between His thumb and little finger.  Isaiah wants his hearers to get a perspective of how great our God is. This is the God who cares about you today.
