Preparation for Sunday, November 29

Isaiah 8:19-9:7

Today is the first Sunday of Advent. As we light the candle of hope this morning, we come to this amazing prophecy of Christ’s birth that envisions His coming as light breaking into darkness. What a picture of hope breaking into gloom! In the message this morning, Pastor Lyle will look more closely at how the end of chapter 8 describes our descent into darkness and how graciously God breaks into this darkness with the dawn of a new day.

Apply

  • Verse 8:19 describes the dead end that results when we look for direction from that which has no ultimate life. Beyond the occult practices mentioned in this verse, where are some other places we tend to go for direction that lack the life and truth of God?
  • As you read 9:1-7, what are some characteristics of the light and hope Christ offers?
  • Ask God to work in your heart and in the hearts of all who will be attending our services online and in person today.

Pray

  • Pray that God would effectively be at work in our church and in all His churches throughout our city today.
  • Pray for our Children’s Ministry Pastor, Jerilyn Bayer, her Ministry Assistant Annette Faszer, and interns Nathanael Faszer, Sunita Faszer, Emma Chang, and Blythe Knapczyk.
  • Pray for Pastor Dan, our Lead Team Pastor and his family.
