Mark 12:18-27

Reflect

The section of passages that we are in reveal the bombardment of attempts to trick Jesus. Passage after passage has those who influence culture attacking Jesus. The Sadducees come up with a ridiculous scenario. Their motivation comes from the root of skepticism. We find the same true today. If a person has membership in the “skeptical club”, they can say whatever they want, they are readily accepted and even admired for being so clever. We can tell that Jesus is nearing to the cross by the directness in His reply. He doesn’t refer them to the latest greatest rabbi whose scrolls are on the #1 best seller’s list and is touring through all the synagogues. Not a chance. Rather, He accuses them of not knowing Scriptures or the power of God. For if they did, they would know that they are asking the wrong questions. Those that trust the power of God develop a faith that allows them to witness the Kingdom of God. His Kingdom has love at the core and this love never ceases. Love is the ultimate fulfillment of the Kingdom of God. How are you involved in this Kingdom? What skeptic are you being called to go to with God’s endless love?
