Proverbs 10:15-32

Reflect

“The lips of the righteous nourish many, but fools die for lack of sense” (v21). I love the intense language in this verse. It definitely paints a word picture for us of the good or harm that can come out of our mouths. When we wisely speak our words for the benefit of others, they can be nourishing.

When I think of the word “nourishing”, I think of a hearty meal that leaves me satisfied and is good for my body. It is awesome to think that our words, wisely spoken can have the same effect on someone else. Our words can provide strength, encouragement, and sustenance to others. In this passage, the lips of the righteous is contrasted with the fool. The fool dies for lack of sense. In other words, while the righteous speak in ways that benefit others, the fool speaks in ways that lead to their own downfall.

How have the words of someone been a benefit to you?  How have they been harmful? What would it look like in your life to nourish many with your words?
