Devotional Guide for Wednesday, July 21

Proverbs 12:1-13

Reflect

Of course, we never know who all reads these devotionals that we produce. I always appreciate when someone connects with me as that provides tremendous perspective on who I am writing to. At the risk of labelling anyone, I hazard to say most readers today would be categorized as conservative Christians. Yes, I realize the continuum is broad. I also suspect that you love the Gospel and affirm that evangelism is a core value in your faith stream.
How would you finish this sentence: Whoever is righteous has regard for… Evangelism? Purity? The Bible? Doctrine? Worship? The church?” Take a peek at verse 10 for how God communicates through this Proverb author. When was the last time you heard a sermon, or read a book on how holiness is connected to how you care for an animal? As people that strongly believe that Jesus is the only way to God, why do we not devote much attention to the animals of the world? Perhaps because we believe missions, evangelism, worship and helping the poor are more important, and we don’t want to be distracted. Perhaps. Yet, there is verse 10 staring right at us. Maybe the Gospel message is a lot larger than we think. Maybe God’s horizon is much broader than we can see.

Apply

How are you posturing yourself to humbly see the Gospel as God sees the Gospel?
