Luke 2:41-51

Reflect

We had just moved to Edmonton. Our eldest son, Ben, had just turned five, and WEM was new to us. As we swept through the stores, we suddenly realized Ben was not with us. Turns out, he thought it would be funny to hide in a carousel of coats. We assumed he knew that we set the agenda. Well, we are in good company.

Take a look at verse 44. “But supposing” or “thinking” or “assuming”--you get the idea. His parents made the mistake of “thinking” that they set the agenda, and Jesus would come along. Maybe He was off playing tag with the other kids or playing on that new tablet they picked up in the big city. Either way, they assumed they knew where Jesus was supposed to be.

One thing we can be certain of, Jesus has lined up and set His life around the things of His Father. That, my friends, is a great challenge for us. As we set out our plans for this New Year, what assumptions have we made about where Jesus is? How far would you go prior to realizing that Jesus is no longer with you? Jesus is creating new paths for the expansion of the Kingdom. Might you prayerfully discern where Jesus is working, and courageously pick up the pace to join Him? I would love to pray with you as you join with Jesus.
