Mark 4:35-41

Reflect

It was not a boat on the water, but a car in India. We were a third of the way down the mountain. We turned another hairpin bend and found ourselves eye to eye with an elephant. My experienced husband stopped suddenly. On the left was a steep drop down, on the right a steep hill up. Neither the elephant or us could move. Panic! Reverse only worked until traffic backed up. JESUS! He is with us! We started praying. Nobody wanted to be rolled over the edge by a frightened animal. Our souls calmed. The storm passed. A big bus came between the elephant and cars and all passed through safely. Thank the Lord! The experienced fishermen in today’s passage, who had most likely already been in many storms, freaked out! Jesus slept through the raging sea. He knew that NOTHING could happen to Him that the Father was not overseeing. I wonder--sometimes the storm brings destruction. There is not always a happy end.  What then? Two things are certain:

  1. Jesus is always there! ALWAYS! Even if it seems that He is sleeping.
  2. He wants to calm you. Even if the sea rages on, He wants to give you His peace that passes understanding. Because in the end, we can trust  even if we might not understand.

All things work together for good to those who love God !
